The Leaving Party

The Leaving Party

Party and the off

We're off again on our travels!!!
After months of thinking about it, formulating the plan, booking our flights and last minute packing we were in need of a farewell party with a fine mix of Tod harriers, Calderdale tri club members and West Mount Vets staff. The theme was Heros and Villains, creating a good opportunity to get the fancy dress box out. Mr and Mrs Incredible hosted the party with fine attendences from Dangermouse, Trinity, Bonnie and Clyde, Calamity Jane and Wyatt Earp (or was it Woody from Toy Story), Number 1, Santa, The one and only miniture hero and may more.
Two weeks since the party now and our Bikes and bags are packed. A marathon has been run and we are ready to go......

On the road again, well rails.

We leave tomorrow. Yhaa!
As sarah kindly pointed out, my guts have been a little bit of a concern over the last week. However, they have been behaving for the past 2 days so we´re off.
We are getting the train from Buenos Aires tommorow at 10:50am to Paso de los Libres. It says it takes it takes 16 hours though we have hear this is a tongue in cheek time so who knows when we´ll get there. Once we do arrive then the cycling begins!
I will leave you there.

Friday 28 October 2011

Hola! Well here we are again. At present still in Buenos Aires. Spanish lessons have gone well and although still nearly always want to burst into tears when I can't make myself understood or the person breaks into English as soon as they hear my stammering spanish, I'm understanding a lot more and at least making my way around a lot better now.
Gareth has the stomach lurgy so the 20hr train journey set for tonight has been postponed, didn't seem a good idea for Gareth or the other passengers. We're moving hostel for a few nights as it is full here (good hostel with good reviews so fills up quickly). Our bikes are assembled and ready to go. Our bags were packed until I decided I wanted the clothes washing soap and couldn't remember which pannier bag I'd put it in. Still can't find it despite unpacking all 4 of my bags twice... so who knows (maybe Gareth has got it, although he strongly denies it!). Will probaby become obvious once I see soap suds leaving my bag after it rains sometime!!!
Although I'm very keen to leave this huge noisy, polluted city it is growing on me. I've had some lovely morning runs in the parque de ecologica which is a lovely place to feel away from the city. Yesterday I walked to Cementerio de la Recoleta, a bizarre, facinating place.  A huge cemetary with grand family toombs arranged in street like formation. Loads of tourists. Very fascinating.

Wednesday 19 October 2011

Hi All, Just a quick entry. Still in Buenos Aires at present, have started spanish lessons here for a few days, hopefully they will help, feeling a bit lost with the language at the moment. Fed up with the car fumes and pollution and not run or biked (or swum) for a week now.. going a bit crazy. Need to get out but long-term need to speak spanish so will have to put up with it a bit longer. Generally sunny here mornings and then clouds over later. 1st rain yesterday evening. Busy, busy city but meeting some lovely people in the hostel. Next entry hopefully from somewhere else.....

Sunday 16 October 2011

Hi All.
Here we are in Buenos Aires. Big city and all a little scary. Realising that our limited Spanish is not going to be enough so rapid learning curve required. Staying in a lovely hostel with a really helpful owner, Natalia, who has made us feel very welcome. Not really seen much of the city yet, just a wander around last night to find some food. Played it safe last night and went for a pizza, too tired to battle with ordering anything more complicated. About to head out to the Sunday markets in San Telmo. Then a bit of sorting to work out how to get out of buenos Aires with the bikes, planning probably to bus out of here as it seems suicidal to bike out of the city itself.
Really looking forward to being out on the bikes, away from the big city and noise, just quieter roads and our pedal power. Seems very very flat around here but I am sure that will change and just hoping for a tail wind!!!
