The Leaving Party

The Leaving Party

Party and the off

We're off again on our travels!!!
After months of thinking about it, formulating the plan, booking our flights and last minute packing we were in need of a farewell party with a fine mix of Tod harriers, Calderdale tri club members and West Mount Vets staff. The theme was Heros and Villains, creating a good opportunity to get the fancy dress box out. Mr and Mrs Incredible hosted the party with fine attendences from Dangermouse, Trinity, Bonnie and Clyde, Calamity Jane and Wyatt Earp (or was it Woody from Toy Story), Number 1, Santa, The one and only miniture hero and may more.
Two weeks since the party now and our Bikes and bags are packed. A marathon has been run and we are ready to go......

Landlocked

27th Jan. Refugio Rio Nadis

Well, we didn´t actually get round to a walk today, the weather had other plans for us. It´d rained all night, but we´d been nice and cosy in our tent and actually woke late to sun on the tent. The main shock was on exiting the tent was yesterdays nice low level slow moving river next to the tent had risen by a good 1.5m and was completely surrounding our island of refugio and camping area. We were marooned! There was no way that it could have been solely the result of the rain we´d had last night, it hadn´t rained that much down here in the valley and it seemed unlikely that even rain up in the mountains could have caused that much rise. We were cut off from the house, but it wasn´t rising any further and if we´d fancied wet feet we could have waded across. We decided Rosendo couldn´t be that worried as he hadn´t appeared, so we cooked ourselves coffee and porridge over the wood stove and decided to see worry about it later. It soon started to rain again so we aborted the planned wade and walk and settled in to learn some new card games and have some enforced rest in the refugio kitchen. Later in the day we saw Rosendo, he certainly wasn´t worried about the water, but then he does generally seem a very laid back guy. Apparently a few times a year a lake higher in the mountains bursts through it´s debris build up and floods the valley, he assured us the water levels were likely to be down by tomorrow??!
It continued to rain lightly but constantly so the enforced rest and card playing continued and we were very thankful for use of the refugio and warm stove instead of being stuck inside the tent all day.
